Are you looking for a good pocket pc chess program? Or are you just wondering what other people are using out there?

I have several pocket pc chess programs that I like...four of them, in particular, are kind of my favorites:

Pocket Chess Partner
Chess Genius
Pocket Grandmaster
Pocket Fritz 2

These are listed in the order I purchased them, and IMO, each one I purchased is better than the one before. I like playing with Pocket Fritz 2 the best...and it is able to display multiple lines of analysis, unlike the others.

I would recommend PF2, if you're looking for only one program to buy. They are all pretty easy to use. But make sure that your Pocket PC meets the requirements before purchasing. I bought PF 2 and had to install it in a roundabout way, because the CD didn't think my PDA was compatible.

Anyone else out there like other Pocket PC chess programs?

Actually, buddy, my pocket PC is a Toshiba e740, which I purchaed in the fall of 2002.

I don't know a lot about PDAs, but the key to installing Pocket Fritz was that the pocket PC had to have one of several different processors, and mine actually didn't have any of the listed processors. I'm guessing that most decent PDAs you could purchase today probably have the right kind of processors.

I don't know why Pocket Fritz works with my PDA because, as I said, I don't know a lot about the different types of processors available today.

What happened was that I saw an article by Steve Lopez (he actually writes a lot of articles for Chess Central, remember them?) 🙂

Steve pointed out that instead of installing from the CD, and going through the "remote" installation procedures, I could copy the install file directly to my pocket pc, and run the install from there, which worked just fine.

But like I said, I would guess that most Pocket PCs you could buy today probably have the more advanced processors on them. Mine didn't because I purchased it in 2002.

If you go to chessexchange.com and leave a message for Steve there, he can probably tell you if the pocket PC you have will run Pocket Fritz.
There are actually several administrators at that site who are extremely knowledgeable about computers, PDA's and, of course, chess!

Yes, I do. I have a Pocket PC with Pocket Fritz. It's an excellent portable chess opponent in addition to a personal organiser.

Thanx for all the info, Ark13 and thebloop. I certainly will look into it. I have fritz on a desktop and a laptop, but the laptop is too clunky to carry around in the car or plane, etc.
