I know this line well and am considering playing it OTB next season.Just wanted to know what people's thoughts are about this move order and what they would play against it!

The main reason I like it isbecause White can't
Play the exchange varaition with Bg5 (not the usual way anyway) and certianly not with Nge2 and Bg5.
However the line you quoted Mr Korch is very sharp but OTB how many people will play it?

Originally posted by KorchYeah but then Black can play 6...Nc6 which I know gambits a pawn but is very tricky for White to meet OTB and is theoreticaly unclear, and I figure most 1.d4 Exchange Queens Gambit players are not looking for a that sort of game, its all about psychology!
If Bf5 is played before c6 white can play Qb3
Originally posted by najdorfslayerUsually I dont like accepting gambits (as I prefer to play safe), but this gambit I would accept with pleasure 🙂

I think you are underestimating Black's position here!
Ward in his recent work "Play the Queens Gambit" doesn't recommend it saying it is unclear whether White gets any advantage in the position.
I do agree that it is definately the most critical test for the 3...Be7 move order however. And it depends on how you follow up, (there is one line which I think gives White good play, but depends if White can find the line OTB).

After 6....Nc6 7.e3 g6 White can play 8.Bb5
As you correctly said it is a matter of taste and while I do belive White is a bit better in the 6.e3, 7.Qb3 lines and the 6.Qc2 lines, it is certainly playable for Black and no worse than any other main-line opening.
Anyway if you keep on casting doubts I may get put off playing it and revert back to the NID! And only play QGD after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 (When White still can't play a normal exchange QGD)
Originally posted by najdorfslayerI agree - despise of fact that white have small advantage these lines are playable. but black must be well prepared, otherwise they risk to get into bad positions.
