he beat kasparov? was it a simul. or a 1 on 1 game. if it was a 1 on 1 game, what is the players title? if it was a simul... big deal , I beat GM Alex Yermolinksy in a simul and he is 2600 fide

It was in a simul. While Kasparov was current world champion, I believe. Here's the thread with the game in it: http://www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?id=3438.

I still think beating the world champion, even in a simul match is fairly impressive, don't you?

yes, its impressive. That doesnt however mean that much. A close friend of mine beat Mikhail Tal in a simu 🙂 , and although kasparov is a genius in chess, a simul reduces his playing level enourmasly. Don't get me wrong, its still impressive.

Agreed! Even when Kaspy plays multiple games at the same time he manages to win most of them! 😉 But of course the best way to know how strong someone is OTB, is OTB rating...

Anyway, the bottom line is-- there are no GMs here, as far as anyone knows, but there are a fair number of players who play at or near master level, so anyone at or below master level should have no problem finding reasonable competition.

And not fo forget...correspondence and OTB chess are different, one can be "only" an expert at OTB but IM or even GM at correspondence chess...

Right. In particular, you work on calculation here. In a very very slow 45/30 on ICC I can, on average, calculate at most two candidate moves to a quiet board. Here you can calculate to your heart's content. It is very good training.

Hey, you never know, it worked for Feivel, he posted in this forum asking for someone in the top 20 to play him, and now he is in the top 20 himself. I won't underestimate anyone until I'll seen a representative sampling of their games.

Why are you complaining about no GM's being here when your rating is 1900 USCF? Tebb's real rating is around 2300 FIDE, being that he got offered the title. He should be a good enough challenge, playing a GM doesn't matter if players lower than that have a good chance of beating you. 1900 is pretty good for a 16 year old though.

There is plenty of competition here. They just have to be willing to accept your challenge.

What the heck is this then? Sure seems like a complaint to me. If you haven't noticed I have been reading any replying to this thread numerous times. Seems to me you're not reading close enough.
