Take a look at gameid 396168 to find another example of a player who can't find the resign-button, because of his fear to lose some rating-points ....

Motivation is not always easy to read. It's his call. I've played a number of games by now on this site where my opponents wanted to play it out to the bitter end. I don't see any reason to disrespect them for it. I don't usually know why they make the decisions they do, but it is their decision to make. The ones that leave a bad taste in my mouth are the ones who just stop making moves without resigning or anything. As long as your opponent keeps playing and not just stalling, I'd say they're ok.

The reason I posted this : this is an another example of a player who is holding up a match for a long time, just because of the rating thing.
There should be a penalty on it. I know, it's a endless discussion .... but I'm sick and tired of players who can't be sportive.

Your opponent is under no obligation to resign and should feel free to play until the game reaches and end via mate or being a draw.

And, yes, in many instances, playing on in a lost position is considered poor etiquette, but as long as one has winning chances all is not lost...

Chess etiquette is a funny thing...

I never resign a game unless the game pieces that are left dictate otherwise. ie king/knight, king/bishop etc. The reason is that the beginning, middle and end game are ALL important to me and any opponent. To me the end is never done until I or my opponent is checkmated. There are too many variables until otherwise. If a player is moving within the time limit YOU agreed on, that person is within the rules. Regardless, if they are taking thier time due to a losing cause. In the end, you will win regardless. Patience is a virtue, and chess is linked to patience. If you don't like the speed of a game then next time DO NOT accept a long time rate between moves.

As many says,is an opponent's choice to resign or to keep playing, but I have to say in Enixa's defense that he was on vacation for several days last week (I'm playing two clan games with him/her) and has 109 games in progress!
So stay calm and wait patiently for your win........

Well, have a look at game n° 269066. I can't believe that my opponent has any other objective than delaying the loss of a few points. He is making 1 move every two weeks since half a year now ...

Mind you, he is currently about to beat a few other top 20 players (at least that is my interpretation, which I trust is not that far off). So, I would expect that he/she understands the position in our game ...

Game 269066

Hmm, black still has a chance... the world may explode at any second. πŸ˜‰

The way ratings and math work people should resign and play for the game you might win.... rather than let lost games build up.

Get the game over with!!! The next game you start you might win!

There is a virtue in playing on lost positions, I think, to challenge yourself to create complications...

some people play until mate so they learn and struggle,

others play on hoping they will get to timeout their opponent.

its a shame we cannot tell which is which.

I believe we can in this case.
