I resign lots of games, I just never resign when I blunder the opening, because there is always a chance for a desperation attack. Also while they are busying capturing my pieces sometimes I can get easy compensation because they have less development. I guess I should have made the title of the thread more clear by saying "reasons not to resign in the opening".

I resign lost games... when I see forced mate, or an engame where I just can't win... but in any position where there is the slightest chance at equalizing or gaining the initiative or the advantage I always fight it out... even against a stronger opponent, because we all make mistakes.

So you were pumping it up when you said "Never"?

Sorry. This is the second time I misunderstood someone based solely on what they said in 2 days. Silly me.

Reason not to resign.

-The world might come to an end. Of course in that case losing or winning does not matter that much.

-Opponent might die. In that case you get free point and should celebrate it while medics are trying to save the poor bastard. Of course if they succeed, it might be that your joy was premature. So try hinder their work as much as you can.

-Your opponent might forget to press his clock after moving, so that you win by timeout. Chances are...~1/500 000 (1/50 if your opponent is either over 60 y.o or american)

Game 3694048

This was an unrelated game in a tournament I was in. Thought it was interesting.
