I recently had an opponent resign in the opening in what looked like an even position, and when I asked why he said his "analyzer" showed him to have a dead lost game. I dunno what brilliant combination his program saw, but it's highly unlikely I would have found it. Is that great or what?

The only game that fits the description is this Game 879568 but the guy was without queen,so the resignation is fully comprehensible

Hehe, this new board feature is great!

However I would have continued to play.........
It can't be that game, Rav; the game just blundered away his Queen! That's not too "even".

I just edited the post,as I'm just get up from bed and didn't notice the blunder...........
By the way from his public games I can't see other resignations in the opening, but maybe I'm missing something......

Maybe this?Game 891903

Yeah, Black is only up a pawn. I didn't see a reason to resign 😕.

Who is your opponent? He's apparently cheating.

Oh hell...I didn't mean to rat the guy out, it never occured to me that anyone would be interested enough to sort through my games, but, yeah, that's the one. I don't see anything that would make the game resignable, do you?

Maybe cause he can't castle? Lol.

Maybe it's resignable at master level, but personally I would never resign with opposite color bishops. You always have drawing chances.

LOL!! OK, maybe someone with a lot of spare time could plug this into their "analyzer" and tell us what the position looks like. I'm not interested enough to go to the trouble, I just hope I get more opponents that resign on speculation because a program says it's a lost cause. If only I were as smart as Fritz.

How do you put up those little board links?

I don't see any easy way to win. I'd have played it out.

After 3 minutes of analyzing the last position, Chessmaster 10th says that black is ahead by 1.09 pawns, and recommends 20. Qe2. (That looks like a good move... white might be able to castle, or if he can't, he can still connect his rooks. This is my opinion, not Chessmaster's.)

Even the 6th best move (20. Rd1) is given as black ahead by 1.50 pawns.

But there is something else that is a little disturbing. When somebody says he resigned because of computer analysis, that means he's using a computer during the game.

Of course he could have meant analysis, not analyzer. Not everyone here has English as their first language, do they?
