20 hours + 30 minutes remaining before the move,13.Rc1 is submitted to CHESS.
Don't forget , CHESS is threatening 13...b4 so be cautious.

I think we should start driving back some of CHESS's pieces while at the same time gaining more space.

Therefore, I vote for 13.e5 (1)

this chases the knight away and gains space in the centre.

What do you think?

The problems with 13.e5 is that he gets to go do 13...Nd5 and if we exchange , he'll get a solid shapr centre.

Right, this is the point where I'd normally lose a game against a higher rated opponent [...it only gets worse from here actually 😞]. I like the move Rc1 because the c-file may well open up if Fritz plays b4 but I don't understand wanting to move d5 afterwards because it is so heavily defended, but that is why I am not very good at this game - please explain why d5 after Rc1 helps us?

I also vote for Rc1 but only because it will take control of that file. I was tempted with a3 but not sure that is best right now.

Vote: Rc1 (2)

Because 13. Rc1 0-0 (say) 14. d5 exd5 15. exd5 Nxd5 16. Nxd5 Bxd5 17. Bxd5 Qxd5 18. Qxd5 Rxd5 19. Rxc7 wins a pawn, but isn't going to happen. Taking control of the c-file puts pressure on the backward c-pawn. After 13.Rc1 we can expect a4 or b4. 13. ... a4 is a particular nuisance as our bishop would have to go to c2. d5 is going to need some preparing.

I vote for 13. Rc1 (3)

I vote for 13. Rc1 too. It seems the most logical move. I played with the thought of 13. a4 but when followed by 13. .. b3 we look a bit cramped.

So 13. Rc1 (4)

I vote 13. a3
if 13. ... a4, then Ba2
if 13. ... b4, 14. axb4 - axb4 and we have an open column

hmm, it wins a pawn back (black wins one in the exchange), I think, with a somewhat better position for black, but we should be able to draw that endgame easily.

If we play e5, the knight simply comes to d5 and is in a better position than it is currently.

14.Bc2 (1) - forced sooner or later.

We could play e5 but that just delays things.

Bc2 seems the most logical to me.
