I vote for 2.Nf3 - we need to get our pieces developed quickly and castle ASAP.

This move also controls the centre.

I have been reading this thread from the start but haven't felt qualified to post thus far, openings are not in my brain and are the weakest part of my game. I would like to vote Nf3, need to develop pieces now for sure.

Warning : This third move is very important as well . A difference in our third move can easily change our whole game .

3. Nf3 seems the most logical move. However the main line in the Chigorin Defence is 3. Nc3. This doubles the attack on d5 and supports e4. If we play 3. Nf3 CHESS will play 3. ... Bg4 and maybe force an exchange later on that could ruin our kingside pawn structure.

I vote for 3. Nc3.

SEVES is correct . Bg4 is a threat to us . We must play 3.Nc3 so he plays 3...e6 and blocks his own bishop . 3... Nf6 can be covered by 4.Bg4 so 3.Nc3 is a good idea.

I have made a mistake . 3.Nf3 is right . We must think about defending rather than attacking . Just like the old cliche , defense is a good offense .

I was also torn between the two, but according to my database, the much more common move was Nf3.

Voting time has ended . The move 3.Nf3 will now be submitted to CHESS. He will be allowed 30 minutes or less to make his move .
Good Luck , to all.

CHESS has made reply to our move . He took 3.3 seconds now .
The reply was 3... Bg4
Opinion : Chessmaster has immediately striken our developed knight thus pressurizing it .
Game History : 1. d4 d5
2. c4 Nc6 3. Nf3 Bg4

Well, this is no suprise. Theory says 4. cxd5 Qxd5 and we transpose in the exchange variation of the Chigorin. Also possible 4. ... Bxf3 5. gxf3 Qxd5 and our pawn structure is messed up. Another unexplored line is 4. Qa4 but this seems far too ambitious. What do you people think?

cxd4 looks logical and is one of the main line moves.
