I see why you would want that, however it would take away from the skill involved with the game. Perhaps if the position was always within the first twelve or so moves, THEN it would work, otherwise people would always play what they see win. No thinking required.
I don't think EVERYBODY would, however it's a likely possibility.
Originally posted by MrGlueBut this isn't a site for OTB chess, this is Correspondence Chess. This is a recurring debate here, but the rules of CC are quite clear: The use of Chess literature and game databases are legal. Part of the fun of CC is to try everything within your power (no programs) to determine your best move.
The more weapons, the better is true...to SOME extent. On the other hand, people would use the weapons to compensate for lack of skill. You can't call up an entire database of games in an OTB game.
I've looked up previous games against opponents to see which lines worked well against them. I think it actually ends up improving both people's games - I get to try a line that I may not have before, and my opponent gets a chance to try again and see if different combinations will work better.
Any system like the one that we have here is based upon a certain amount of trust between the players. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt and not assume that they will try to cheat their way to victory.
