I was bored one day (I should have been making moves) and was curious about my rank in the player tables (340). I am an average USCF player(around 1350)- nothing to brag about. I am mid 1500 here so far. With approx. 65,000 players that puts me better than 99.5% of the players here! What an ego booster! I think thats interesting because I think I'm a decent player but not that good! Heres what I found:
2100 or above 5 players
2000 -2099 10 players
1900 - 1999 17 players
1800- 1899 31 players
1700 - 1799 64 players
1600 -1699 120 players
1500- 1599 210 players. I stopped here.
So 457 players 1500 or above. Roughly 64,500 players below 1500 on a correspondence site. I'm not complaining. I LOVE this site. I was just curious to get any comments. For example, these few top players that everyone drools over are really just beating up on a bunch of average chess players. It is not near as impressive when you see the caliber of competition. I'm in the 50% of players anywhere else not in the 99.5 percentile. Any comments?

Well,I don't think the top players just beat up on lower ranked ones. They mainly play each other. And if you see what Feivel, currently #13 here, does against Chessmaster 9000 and the fact that Tebb beat Kasparov in a simul.......I don't know about you,but that impresses me!

Well if anyone ever beat Kasparov in a chess game, even if Kasparov was blindfolded, then I agree that is impressive. I can see where the 2000 and up players would have to play each other to get a good game. There just are not very many of them.

I think that once the site has got a core, established top 20 of players rated 2100+ (as it pretty much has now), then there will be more of an appeal for really strong players to play here, for the same reasons already stated. I know of one Master who has started playing here recently and i see no reason why this should be an issolated incident.

Who knows, maybe we'll have some GMs knocking around some time in the near future 😉

Yes, it really doesn't matter to me. I just thought it was was curious because I believe this is the best chess site overall on the web for many reasons. There are plenty of 1400 to 1700 players to make me work for my wins. I just feel my record is inflated because I won games against some people that acted like they had never played a game of chess in their life and it turned out they had played plenty of games.

Heh,I guess MAP is to blame for that.

I agree, MAP is a bad thing for the players who compete for it. I've played purtlecow and cheshire cat recently and they are both good players. Cat could easily be a consistent 1500-1600 player if it weren't for the distraction.

yes: last time I played cat he minced me, but he was only playing some 40 games at the time. I'll need to wait till he's got a good 100 on the go before I go for revenge...

Yes, we won one each (with white respectively), which is a little annoying for me cos i lost a huge chunk off my rating when playing a player of equal strength :'(

Ok , I said I was new. I just figured out what MAP means. I did not know what you were talking about. I looked and saw cribs and turtlex. I remember they were easy wins for me. This just confounds me. If you want to play alot and moves fast why not play at WCN or ICC? I thought the whole idea here was you can take more time with your moves. I messed up and have 28 games going and I won't do that again. This is becoming work! I hate to lose so I try not to rush. I just took a peice on a guy with a 2 move combo . He must have "looked and clicked" Go ahead, it makes my game easier. It's interesting that there is no correlation between amount of games played and increase in rating. Playing more games does not make you a better player.

I have one comment - The top rating table is based on about 3500 players, since so many haven't moved within the last 100 days, and so many are provisional. So.. you're not quite in that percentile!

May be if RHP starts MIP (Most Improved Player) of the month.
guys out here will think more about quality rather than number of moves.
Just my suggestion.
