Sandbagging in Tournies

Only Chess

He was creaming me, (rated at 1100 and change).

I asked: "You're playing shockingly well for an 1100 player. Tell me, what's your secret for your unprecedented leap in playing ability?"

His explanation: "Actually my rating much bigger, I resigned in all my games, I was thinking I can't play any more good chess, it was an accident but it is turn out I am still can,"

Fishy to say the least.

heck, he has more sand than Metalica, those sons of the desert, but wait thats where
he learned it, but shhh, dont tell anyone, your not allowed to say anything against
them now, you'll get banned for it! a 2100 rated player masquerading as a 1100 rated
player, that's the way they play, treat them like you would a basket full of rattle
snakes, for that's what they amount to.

He has applied to join them but he isn't on their clan page (so Shortcircuit hasn't accepted them into the clan)

Ummmm, did you look at his graph?
It is pretty apparent he was a player to me.
It was also obvious that he wasn't an 1100.

Hence, the title "sandbagging"

You see Robbie, this type of response from you is antagonistic in nature,
especially since I was not speaking to you on this topic.

I think there is an incredible amount of sandbagging that goes on in tournaments.
I agree with you that it is frustrating when you get matched up against such a player.

I have had the pleasure (?) of facing 5 engine users in clan match-ups where I
was totally destroyed.
Unfortunately, all 5 players were banned for engine abuse AFTER our games were
already completed.
I cannot understand why anyone feels the need to use an engine to win.
Might as well go play with themselves.

Now, until they change the rating structure and install proper floors and ceilings,
this sort of thing will continue to happen. But, based on the rules the way they are
stated, there was nothing illegal.

Well that's 2 clans he didn't make it into...

This is annoying when it happens. I still wish that ratings were set so that a player cannot go down more than say 500 points from their highest ever rating on the site - after the first 100 rated games are played.

Hi Para guy.

That is quite a dramtic tumble. User 253523
His profile does state he was 1980 at one time.

A real sandbagger usually throws a few games (have these guys no ego?) to
stay below a certain grade. eg just enough to hover under say 1600.

This plunge is too obvious. It could have been for any reason:
An illness, A holiday in China, Prison, Bored (I hope not), Kidnapped by Pirates
and his family would not pay the ransom.....Anything.

His name is Goodwill. Maybe he resigned all his games in an act of goodwill
so his fellow players will get grading points.

I think not sandbagging. But another poster is correct a method should be
put in place so a player cannot enter a tournament if the highest grade they
have achieved on here does not allow it.
