Hello. I am wanting to add the Scandinavian Defense to my Black repotoire, and was wondering if perhaps any of you out there could suggest any particular books out there on the market that could help me get a good grasp of the Scandinavian. Thanks for your advice in return.

i would suggest Andrew Martin's 'Scheming Scandinavian' dvd as a start and to give you a flavour for this solid opening.

The Scandinavian by John Emms is pretty good (although I don't have it, yet)
You can read a sample here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1857443756/ref=sib_dp_pt/002-5586287-1976828#reader-link

But be sure to buy the second edition.

There is a book out there (seen in a few Borders' and Barnes & Nobles in the States) that's all about 3...Qe3 instead of 3...Qa5

Can't remember who wrote it, but it's fairly new and available.

I agree with Martin Beaver. The Scheming Scandinavian dvd is an excellent place to start. Andrew Martin is a good, energetic host on the dvd and explains the principles as well as individual lines very well. I usually fall asleep on instructional dvd's. Martin keeps me awake the longest. Also, not mentioned by others, is Andrew Martin's The Essential Center Counter (Thinker's Press 2004). Both complement each other. Watch the dvd, however. It plays on one of my dvd players and not the other. Go figure. I do not reccomend any of Roman Dzindzichashvili's stuff. It's soporific and unhelpful IMO.

Andy Martin has now brought out a book - the Essential Center-Counter - giving a repertoire for Black in the 3...Qa5 lines. It is very sensible and he is not afraid to admit where he thinks W has a theoretical edge; the emphasis is on practical "playability". It does no cover quite the same gorund as the "Scheming" DVD, apparently, although I have not seen this, so can't comment.

A lot of people are fans of a book by Michael Melts which covers the line with 3...Qd6. I have not seen that, either, however.

No offence, but you people need to get lives if you think that you need to read books and watch movies on chess and chess strategies.

No offense but a trained monkey would play better chess than you. In fact an untrained monkey would do.
I doubt you can buy CM3000 anywhere anymore as it's so old. Try looking for CM10000 or Fritz 8 instead.

Do you mean butt kicking? People around here aren't impressed with this kind of drivel, 7 games played and 7 games lost is hardly an impressive start, is it?
