I just downloaded scid. I wanna put my games I play in RHP there.

I also want to have a database like those over 1800 guys.

How does one build up a database?

Download the PGNs and import them. Some sites like chessgames.com offer collections of PGNs to subscribers. You can import them rather easily. I've imported something like 50k+ games into SCID without a problem.

You put your games into it.

My personal DB of just my games has over 1000 games, and more than that observed. I also have two separate DB's of master games - one for quantity, the other for quality.

Got to "My Games" page.
On the blue bar, click "Email Games".
Follow the instructions and you can mail the 100 latest games directly to you by email.

Dump SCID. Get ChessDB which is based on SCID and is still being maintained:

Hmm. Can't help you there. Have you tried Jose? Looks like you have to have MySQL as well.

As much as I've used Linux and OpenBSD I have to admit I haven't used a GUI with them since about 1999.
