I'm pleased to report that, although I've been good and stomped in my little me vs. the world challenge, in the french advance milner-barry gambit tourney, I have successfully vindicated the white side. As white against my 3 opponents, I checkmated 1 in 10 moves, utterly shattered my opponent in the second, he resigned 10 moves in, facing mate in one. In the third, my opponent resigned 8 moves in facing immediate material loss.

:-) The french still sucks.

I'm talking about the white side of the tournament :-)

I haven't forgotten the non-tournament game. I'll be having nightmares about it for decades to come...

My favorite game in the tournament, however, is

Game 571176

-- no blame to my opponent, who is a fine player and currently, as I recall, beating me around the board on the other side of the theme. But the game was something like...

"do de do de doo. don't mind me. I'll just develop these pieces. Oh, I'll just slide this rook on the third rank. no, no reason. It just looks prettier. Oh, you castled? Pity, that."

I guarantee I can beat you in the Milner Barry, it's crap! On the less serious side.....Gambits are almost always bad, except a select few, Benko, Kings, Queens....

You forgot my three favorite ultra-sound gambits! Specifically, the albin, smith-morra and latvian 😀

Euh... do you play the Scandinavian as a gambit? Nothing wrong with it, of course! 🙂

The diemer is nice, haven't played it often though... should give it another try anytime soon. 🙂

I don't use the Scandinavian defense.I was merely stating that it's a sound gambit if you choose to play it as such.

If you're saying the French Defense sucks, I certainly hope you're talking about World War I and II! I've been a French fan for a long time and would be inclined to slap/kick/behead any who slander it. But I grant that as white playing against someone who doesn't really understand it, it's easy to take it apart. Against someone who really knows it, though (and I wouldn't put myself into that category quite yet) it's a great way to stymie gung-ho e4 players.
