king's gambit...one of the old openings from the "Romantic Era" of chess, 1800's or so, it's gone in and out of style, never been refuted. Some of the greats played it, like Alekhine, Keres, TAL!!!, Fischer, even, (before he was beaten by it), and Spassky. David Bronstien did too. Nigel Short played it and did quite well. It's OK.

Originally posted by z00tIn that tournament Short did play simply bad in most of his games - so finding fault in Kings gambit (which he did use in one game) is really childish.
I read somewhere about Short's King Gambit. Perhaps this result is as a result of such a "world class opening" as the King's Gambit? Why don't GMs like Kasparov or Karpov play the KG?
Here is that game.

White could get some opening advantage playing 9.Ne5 (instead of 9.Qe4).
10.Bc4? (instead of 10.Bxf4) was bad - black could get advantage playing 10...Bxh4+ (instead of 10...Bd6)
18.Ne4? was decisive mistake - after 18.Nb5 position was unclear.
