This is the move I currently play, but I think ...g6 is interesting and wanted someone's opinion on it, and Korch seems to be the local 2. c3 guru. 😀
Yeah he does I suppose

I love the Dragon more than life itself. 😀

Korch, what do you think about the ...g6 lines, intending something like 2. c3 g6 3. d4 cd 4. cd d5 ? I've always thought these lines were atypical for the c3 Sicilians and maybe a good choice for a Dragon and Grunfeld player like myself. I have a friend who religiously plays 2. c3 and he says this line bothers him. What's your take?
I agree that 2...g6 might be not bad response to 2.c3 and after 3. d4 cd 4. cd d5 black is OK. But white can play 3.Nf3 and only then 4.d4 - according to Sveshnikov white has some plus. Nuance is in condition that in 3.d4 cd 4. cd d5 black should not hurry to put bishop on g7. Here is one game which illustrates options of black in 3. d4 cd 4. cd d5 line.

[Event "Bled op 18th"]
[Site "Bled"]
[Date "1997.03.15"]
[Round "1"]
[White "Pap,Misa"]
[Black "Sveshnikov,Evgeny"]

1.e4 c5 2.c3 g6 3.d4 cxd4 4.cxd4 d5 5.e5 Nc6 6.Nc3 Nh6 7.Nge2 f6 8.exf6 e6
9.Bf4 Qxf6 10.Qd2 Nf5 11.0-0-0 Bg7 12.Bg5 Qf7 13.g4 Nfxd4 14.Nxd4 Nxd4 15.Qe3 Nc6 16.Rxd5 0-0
17.Rd2 e5 18.Qe4 Nd4 19.Bg2 Be6 20.Qxb7 Qxb7 21.Bxb7 Rab8 22.Be4 Rfc8 23.f3 Bxa2 24.Kd1 Be6
25.Ke1 Bf8 26.Kf2 Nb3 27.Re2 Bc5+ 28.Kg3 Nd4 29.Rd2 Kg7 30.Bd5 Bxd5 31.Nxd5 Rf8 32.f4 h6
33.Be7 Bxe7 34.Nxe7 Rb3+ 35.Kg2 Rxf4 36.h3 Nf3 37.Re2 Nh4+ 38.Kh2 Rff3 39.Rxe5 Rxb2+ 40.Kg1 Rg2+
0-1

In that game black could also choose other plan with 7...Nf5 - Bg7 - e6 - h5.

Yeah it's quite scary. I've only lost one game with it OTB, but it was an embarrassment. Humorously, I misremembered the theory (on move 18 or something) and the guy thought for a full hour, and played some gross Nf5 sac, that turned out to be the refutation. I felt that one a couple days later. 😀 I have a very sharp game against TyrannosaurusChex right now, and who knows what's happening in that game.

Yeah I was familiar with the idea that the bishop might want to stay on f8 for a while. That was an interesting game, I appreciate the response, Korch.

And after 3.exd5 Qxd5 4.d4 Big Bad Korch will pull you into boring (from Sicilian player`s point of view) positions with small positional plus for white 😛

After 2....Nf6 3.e5 Nd5 4.g3 I`ll pull you into positional anti-sicilian positions 🙂

But playing 2...g6 you should figure out what to do after 3.Nf3! (instead of 3.d4). After 3...Bg7 I will not repeat my experiment with Tebb (4.h3!?) and will play 4.d4!

Unfortuntely every defence has their "boring lines" like

Exchange Ruy Lopez
Exchange Slav
4.d3 Two Knights

Agreed. So better is to play asymmetrical defenses (like Pirc, Robatch, Kings Indian, Scandinavian etc.) which are not so easy to turn into "boring lines".

That doesn't even work! There is the Classical Pirc, Exchange Classical KID, The Scandinavian has always been boring to me. It always reminds me of just some weird Caro Kann.

Classical Pirc is not so safe for white as Sicilian 2.c3 or Ruy Exchange.
Exchange Classical KID can be avoided - black have reasonable alternatives
Scandinavian and boring??? I dont think that 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qd6 can be called boring. Here are few examples:
Game 4449398
Game 4535022
