Ok, for the last three months or so i've been making a real effort to raise my level of play. Whenever i log on, i will look at each of my games in turn and think up some moves. I'll then carry on through my games slowly and perhaps won't make a move for 2 hours until im 'feeling it'. 'It' being that state of mind were you see things you didn't see b4.

The other day (saturday), i was a bit tired. I logged on, spent two hours looking through my games.....

By the time i made a move, i was exhausted! I logged on on sunday and realized i'd made some bad mistakes (some were resign worthy...) in nearly all of my games!!!

Im screwing. What the hell do i have to do to get over 1600 and stay there, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! I really want to just resign all my games and go bury my head under something heavy.😠......:'(

Stop being so hard on yourself. Take a day off. Smell the roses.

That's exactly what i've been trying not to do. The only problem is i work 12 hour night shifts at the week end. I normally start off fresh, it's just after a certain time i become tired. I didn't realize in time last saturday that i was fatigued. I had three games were i was up a piece, all of which i am now down a piece!!! I hate this site.....well, maybe not, i just hate loosing 😞

It is hard to not make moves when you are not tired when the time is a bit on the fast side. Three days a move is about the standard. Lets see. Day one. A bad day. Day two. Something happens. Day three. Still not a good day, but have to move. It is a bit too easy to be tired when you have to work.

My advice would be to stop focusing on the ratings numbers ("How do I get above 1600 and stay there?" etc.) and just try to have *fun*. It's supposed to be a game, remember? We say that we "play" chess, not "do" chess or "endure" chess. We're "playing". Playing is supposed to be fun. If it's not fun, then don't do it.

I can't play chess when I'm tired, either. Nobody can. Your cognitive functions drop, you miss things. That's normal, whether you're playing chess or backgammon or Parcheesi.

I hear what your saying πŸ™‚ The rating isn't 'important', but it does give some indication that you are improving. If you look at my graph you'll see that i've made it over 1600 3 or 4 times since i joined, but every time i do i loose to a lower rated player and loose 30 points off my rating. Being overly concerned with numbers is silly, your right, it's just i want to improve, not just accept my short comings, im sure most people here are the same 😞

Well, up in the exchange, Knight for rook, then.....

Game 763319

And how about this....think i've got a nice attack going, see the check but don't follow it through correctly and have to resign because i loose my queen...

Game 725270

I was winning nearly all my games the night before, i come to work, load up RHP and realise im screwed for at least two weeks!
