i thought it might have been steinitz, he has a habit of closing the centre, playing with his knights and he generally always like to play c3 to take the d4 square away from black

Yes rob,Steinitz-Blackburne was a good guess,I would've guessed Anderssen played black.
But it was of course a bit of a trick question. It's indeed a computer game Shredder-Rybka,WBEC13 premier division 2006.
It's dubbed Rybka's immortal.

Very surprising two engines created such a game.

Hmm if two humans were responsible for this, it would be more surprising 😉

(the combination of attack & defense is "improbable" for a normal game, especially the moves around the white Queen loss)

Then what about the original immortal: Anderssen-Kieseritzky?Is that improbable too?

The thing lies about completely in the Qg5 move

But of course the lead-up too, but the Qg5 is much of a giveaway, I thought it was a 90s computer face-off but apparently it's fairly recent

No, Karl Ernst Adolf vs. Bagration Felix Adalbert eh... is a different affair

You think 27.... Qg5 is an unhuman move?

Not that, but combined with the rest of the game it is another "computer move"

Why another computer thread by the way

Let's talk about Chess

I thought it was interesting two engines played such a game.

But ok,here's some chesstalk "Enemy pawns and pieces that advance into your territory are easier to attack"

Enemy pawns and pieces that advance into your territory cause uncontrolled panic

Only if you're a wuss

Doubled pawns are less of a problem when your opponent has no knights.
