In Fritz, when it runs analysis I get a symbol that looks like the letter "U" but with a little tail coming straight down on the left side. Anyone know what this means?
Thanks

What you have done is let Fritz analyse Game 5368761

This is it telling you it it's score cannot go any lower than -99
and it now wants to commit suicide.

Put in the same game again but tell it this was 'Give away' Chess.

If this fails then visit here.

www, fritz_samaritan_hotline.co.uk

Another Fritz will talk to it and try to cheer it up.

Greenpawn! There's a part of me that wants to call you a real arse for the help that you gave the poster, but unfortunately, I am too busy laughing.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what that symbol is either. And please note that I was laughing at the silly comments not your game. In fact, I didn't even look at the game when I posted.

The symbol sounds like the Greek letter mu. I don't know what it would mean in a Fritz context though.

Sounds like a font problem to me......if you're lucky 😛

Go here:

If that doesn't help there are many other tutorials here:
http://www.chessbase.com/download/index.asp

If that doesn't fix it just ignore it 😉

toet.

It does sound like he has the wrong font running.

The chances are he has already so if he selcts factory settings
he may get it back.

Don't ignore it Piraih. Post the position when this 'U' thing appears.

It might help to post a screenshot. 🙂

I think it means unclear. I could be wrong though.

It sounds like a mu. It probably means that there's too much friction between the bottom of your pieces and the board.

Mu is also the symbol for "micro-". Maybe Fritz has calculated that the advantage for White is one millionth of a pawn.

It's the Informator symbol for 'Black is clearly better' [though I thought Fritz used -+ for that, like almost everyone else].

Well I'm sorry to argue with Fritz but in this position
Black has just played Pd6xPe5

Black is certainly NOT better.

The Queen can be lured out of the way to where you want her with captures.

White can play RxN, QxN, NxP, Qc8, BxB!,QxB, Ng6, Bf6, Ne7+, Kh8, QxB, PxQ, BxP mate.

A mating pattern we discussed a few threads ago

There is more...

If Black tries to stave off the mate with Rg8.

Then Qh6, f6, Ng6 mate

A pattern we looked at in the thread on Smothered Mates.

Perhaps if Fritz had access to these threads it would not be so gay
with it's 'Black is better' symbols.

Is it this?
