How about a new symmetric game of Chess on a 9x9 board with columns running from a, b ,c ,d , e, f, g, h, i, and rows going from 1 to 9... There will be 18 pieces on both sides with 1 K, 2 Q's 2bishops, 2, kni9ghts and 2 Rooks symeetrically placed on either side of the King.. and of course 9 pawns in the front row..
This kind of Chess will be very interesting.. as all the bishops of both sides will be always be on the same coloured square...

Designing such a board may not be popularly acceptable... But digitally such a game can be designed for computer chess..i.e. symmetric chess..

I think this game exists as "Minister's Chess". They used to advertise the sets in Chess Life.

That's a good point about the Bishops - both sides will have weak light squares, but neither will have Bishops to exploit them! I expect you'd see lots of Kings sticking to the light squares in this game.

Hmm, and Knights are better in the sense that there is no more "2 Bishops" advantage (at least, not until you promote!), but worse in the sense that the board is bigger and they're short-range.

(it's not very good, I beat it in five moves!)
