"The Art of Checkmate" is good for learning mating patterns. The one I had was only in descriptive notation though, dont know if it is available in algebraic. I also cant remember if it was by Victor Renaud or Eugene Znosko-Borovsky.

My favorite book right now is Van Perlo's 'Endgame Tactics, Comprehensive Guide to the Sunny Side of Endgames'. Recommended.

Georges Renaud and Victor Kahn

It is available only in descriptive, and is by far the best book of its type.
