Hi again folks... Another Q for all you clever-clogs... :-)
Two opponents meet in the black & white jungle - Their ratings are (lets say) within 2 points of each other...
Player 1 resigns the first game. His rating drops.
He then proceeds to beat player 2 in the second game ..
Q... Does he gain more points than if he beat player 1 within the 2 points range?
Reason.. I have noticed a few people resign right before they beat me in the second game!? Is there a tactic behind their actions I am not aware of?
Many thx!

There is a tactic that is behind their actions that you are not aware of. I am not aware of it either though. The tactic could be, "I have too many games on the go which is causing be to lack concentration. Therefore I would resign a load of games!". Unfortunately, unaware that some of those games could be winning games.
It does not make sense otherwise to resign a game that they are clearly winning because winning would only increase their rating anyway.

The reason has been explained in other threads.
Your end rating will be higher if you lose the lost game first.

Yes, with the subscription comes the opportunity to enter tournaments etc. where games are set up in pairs (one as white, one as black). Hence the mentioned situation occurs while alot.
I personally tend to try to 'manage' my games a bit; trying to keep the rating graph flat as possible - ie by advancing winning and losing games in equal proportion.
