Task Switching on ICC/Playchess

Hello, just wanted to clarify or shed some light onto this discussion. A year or so ago, I had contacted a man named Steffen Giehring. He was very helpful and called this "Engine warning" a "guesting". Apparently, if one's serial code runs out, and for some odd reason task-switching causes the message to appear, the person is no longer able to enter the main playing room. This is NOT because of cheating, but rather just because his or her serial code has expired. (This is what I have understood from the emails, but I MAY be wrong). Below is an e-mail from Steffen.

First my submission to the website:
Confidentials have been blocked out

First name: ####
Name: ####
Subject: Playchess.com
Description: My account has been suspended, and I can no longer enter the
main room or play rated games for "cheating". However, I have not used an
engine or fit any description of breaking the rules. What should I do?

Hello Mr. ####
What is the name of your account at playchess.com at all?

Mit freundlichem Gruß Yours sincerely

Hello! Thanks for replying! The name of my playchess.com account is also ####

Daer Mr. ####

Thanks for your mail.

You account at playchess.com was recently "guested" because the registration number that you had used for registration of your account expired long ago already.

You are welcome to buy a separate serial number (valid for one account for one year again) at 29,90 Euro right at www.chessbase.com/shop/productlist.asp?product=online&subd=&user=&coin=
or the Fritz 11 or the new Rybka 3 program including a serial number at 49,99 Euro at www.chessbase.com/shop

Thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Steffen Giehring

After this was resolved, I had another problem where I was "guested" again for task switching. I e-mailed him again, and he promptly fixed it:

Hi,

Recently, I noticed that I was "guested" even though I have a serial number. I'm pretty sure that my serial number hasn't expired yet, but I still am "guested". My username is ####, is it possible you can fix this?

-Thanks!
####

Hi

Please try again now.

Mit freundlichem Gruß Yours sincerely
Steffen Giehring

Hope this helps.

Nothing "fictitious" about this guy! I got along with him fairly well when I was on Playchess a while back. (Then again, I didn't task switch. 😉 ) Seemed like a decent guy. Of course, I'm sure he made a few enemies. (He was t ...[text shortened]... ate the abuse.

P.S. The OP thinking about getting him fired? Pffft, ain't gonna happen!
The crux of the matter is that chessbase would not be discussing their cheating policies with some guy accused of cheating by email. If cotoi was dumb enough to get help from fritz as he played on playchess, he was rightly flagged as cheating scum.

Though wouldn't it reduce so-called cheating if their rules of cheating were clear? For example, if you walk into a room where there is a rule that you cannot look at the floor which is not told to you. Since looking at the floor is not unnatural, eventually you look at the floor, and are labeled a cheater. Does this help the playchess policy? Honestly, I don't really care. Playchess is the only site I use to play blitz regularly, and even if it has what I believe to mistakes, I still use it a lot.

One minute you have cotoi claiming that he was specifically told by a sysop (not a chessbase employee) that you can task-switch 5 times and you have an email with nothing of the sort on the matter. Chessbase have publiccly stated that they cannot reveal their anti-cheat policies(to deter cheats from working around them).

If you are flagged as a cheat, your rating is deleted and a public announcement made. Where did this happen in your case? Why didn't CB tell you how many times you can or can't task-switch? See the contradiction? 😲

If you have good reading comprehension, read the opening statement. You do know what algorithms are don't you? So when Playchess says Playchess has extensive algorithms to prevent cheating anyway... it should be apparent that there are several measures in place.

I have recently task-switched nearly 100 times in several rated games and nothing happened to me. Wake up dude and smell the coffee.

1. I don't know to make a difference between a sysop and a chessbase employee.

2. I am a cheater. I have been banned from many other sites. On chess.com my account was closed for cheating:
http://www.chess.com/members/view/costelus
on ICC I have a (C) attached to my name; don't know why, cause I did nothing:
http://www.chessclub.com/activities/finger.php?handle=costelus
Chessbase were so smart to delete my rating for cheating. And so right!

3. The thing with secret anti-cheating policies is only for idiots. It's well-known that a sound decision is made by analyzing the moves (like top-3 matchup) and also the tactical errors. Unfortunately on chessbase this doesn't apply to players above 2000. In a month there I didn't see any such player with the rating reset. And I know examples (say a player rated 1800 ELO with a blitz rating there of 2500).

4. Bottom line chessbase: I'm sorry about you, I won't change my mind. You can put your employees like enrico to go to various chess sites to tell that chessbase is the best. I don't care any more. Do you know why? Because I'm a cheater, as you discovered! 🙂

Very funny! Shall I mention about the peoples who invented the mafia and who exported it to the US?

Please do not misunderstand. I am not saying that you are wrong or that Playchess doesn't have algorithms, I am just presenting information and my opinion. Perhaps the program which is task-switched makes a difference or perhaps task-switching has nothing to do with it. I believe that you have experimented, but there is not enough information present to significantly make conclusions. My opinions and views have nothing to do with cotoi. Perhaps I am misunderstanding your post, but I do not understand why you have quoted my previous post and mentioned cotoi. Contrary to the announcement, my rating has NEVER been deleted. For some reason, I find that, even though it announces that the rating has been deleted, more often is the inability to access the main playing room and play rated games. (Though I do suppose this could be a type of rating deletion). Also, I have received this message once, and nothing actually happened. My rating stayed the same, and I just continued to play blitz. Also, I am a bit confused when you write in second person. Are you asking me if I have good reading comprehension?

I apologize for my disorganized presentation of information above 😲.
