It's mostly retrograde problems I believe, but I might be corrected. I guess "Sherlock Holmes" was added in the title for commercial purposes...

i enjoyed it. there's a companion volume by the same author called something like Chess Mysteries of the Arabian Nights (Knights?). as someone said, it's worth picking up if you like logic puzzles. i got a kick out of solving them.

There are actually stories behind every problem in which Holmes and Watson play a part. It's really a quite ingenious hook for introducing retro problems to the casual reader.

The chess mysteries of the Arabian Knights. i have read it twice, failed to solve a single problem, still i highly recommend it, never boring.
