Seemingly like most others here, I also don't know what you are referring to. In searching for 'Crystal Palace' in regards to chess the only thing that really comes up is the typical stuff about Ajeeb. If you have a reference to what you are talking about there might be others besides myself interested in looking at it.

5) a Fallen Pawn can replace an empty rank ie, if both knights have been captured one may be brought back. This can occur only three times. and only for Bishops and Knights.
6) Check mate must involve a pawn.
7) Place the Figure pieces (King, Queen, Rook's, Bishop's and Knight's) along the first rank as appropriate with optimal advantage and according to rule numbers 1-3.
1961) Checkmate generally involves 3 pieces choose them and then choose your pawn. for he is your limit on lateral movement.

Especially this:
6) Check mate must involve a pawn.
IF I queen a pawn then mate with said queen does that involve a pawn? Checkmate with check given by a pawn seems clear enough, or can the pawn simply be part of the mating net... What if I form a mating net and mate with 2 rooks but one could be captured by the enemy king if not for a pawn supporting it? What if a pawn is all that is keeping me from being mated?
Then there is this
5) a Fallen Pawn can replace an empty rank ie, if both knights have been captured one may be brought back. This can occur only three times. and only for Bishops and Knights.
IS that both of your knights or both yours and your opponents black bishops? How do you go about doing this? Finally, how does a pawn occupy an entire rank? why not a file for that matter?

Life is like a game of chess wouldnt you say, imagine if bobby fischer was the greatest chess computer in the history of man kind. and noone knew why. His idea of Fischerandom chess came from the quest, if checkmate is the last three pieces four moves away then what combination of pieces is the MOST effieient three pieces, the answer:
a king a queen a pawn and a bishop. Bobby fischer knew this all along because he knew 3 move checkmate. the rest is all smoke and mirrors on how you loose your other pieces to best fool your opponent that you use dynamic pieces. hence the crystal palace conundrum is the same grid lock of generic chess just covering the right bases... the diagonal ones not the parrallel.
