@mike69 saidI think you've attached the wrong video
Does anyone actually play the game and have fun anymore? One move from a day to a week ++, how is this lively, enjoyable, challenging? Is it just me, thoughts?

Hi venda
Is it not a link to 'Amercian Pie' by Don Mclean who sings about Buddy Holly,
the day music died. (I think it was doomed when the first boy band was formed.)
But I recognise the theme of Mike's post. A few carelss losses and what's the point
feeling sink in (and that is without even looking at Mike's previous games.)
We all go through it. The best cure is stay away from the game few days or
grab a book (with me it's 200 mimiatures by Du Mont - my first love) and
soon you will get back into the swing of things.
Chess was wounded in 1967 when the computer Mac Hack VI beat Ben Landey
in a chess tournament. It was finally laid to rest when Deep Blue beat Kasparov in 1997.
Then the Queens Gambit happened! A Resurrection!A new chess term appeared;
'Netflix Newbies' (bless them all) and chess was re-born.
Shame about Ben Landey, by all accounts he was a chess addict.

I have fun every game I play you. I must say you move faster than most people too. 😉

I did think it might be something like that with a tenuous link to the song.
I think it's all about attitude and not taking things too seriously(at our level anyway)
It's the same with any competitive game or sport.
I play crown green bowls and sometimes play quite badly and lose thus "letting the team down"
I get over it quite quickly. It's supposed to be fun after all and the competition element is an added incentive.
However, some players take it really seriously and if they lose spend ages going over their technique and practising endlessly. Some even lose sleep after a loss.
Chess,on here especially, is just the same in my opinion -Attitude.

I really believe it is entirely up to the players expectations some are higher than others as has been shown on this Site.

Some people just hate to lose at anything.
Nobody likes losing but it's how you deal with it that really matters.
I will never be a great chess player,or crown green bowler for that matter, because I'm just not that competitive
I will always play to win,but if I lose it doesn't bother me that much.Except when playing you of course!!

Dave you have twice the amount of wins I do. You do play your best games against me for sure. 🙂

@venda saidCouldn’t care less about losing or winning really it’s fun to play and when you play me you play me, nothing else. I move very fast in hopes someone will actually make more than one move in a row especially when the game first starts?? I’m saying its just not the same as it used to be with books to look at, computer programs, analyze board over and over til a combination is figured out. People not moving after they start losing taking months to finish a game because of their rating egos or not moving while playing their other games. It seems the only way to play a real game anymore is head to head. This also makes you wonder about the high ratings, can they play without all the tools at hand.

I don't experience players dragging their heels so much, and I only play 7:7 or longer.
Maybe it's because not many are obviously losing against me!
If someone's green light is on when I log in I tend to make at least one move in one of those games to give my opponent a chance to reply. If they do I will often continue the game.Otherwise I have my filter set on least timeout remaining and work down the list.I always go to analyze board first just to remind me of my plan, though I don't need to if it's a "green light reply" game.
Some don't show the green light.I suspect it's because they don't know about the setting.
@venda saidThere is another possibility, that they don't want anyone to know they are on line, but you can still look and see when they last moved. 🙂
