    if you hate it as black, then you could just not play 1. ...e5. Honestly, the 4 Knights is such a bore, and the people that use it are primarily wielding low ratings so black can get a good game easily.
    in the Italian Four Knights, 4. Bc4, remember that 4. ...Nxe4 is great!

    But I must admit, the 4 Knights is one of the reasons I like c5 more... it's just so lame!

    well as soon as you make a gambit it becomes the name of an opening.
    in this case whether or not you do d4 or f4 it doesnt really change the fact thats the opening.

    I have a opening book that covers e4 e5 and e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Nxe5 is called the irish gambit.also to avoid the four Knights game do e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Nc3 Nf6 Bb5 Nd4 even position
