3 minor pieces = a Queen.
The stats don't appear to think so unless the three bits player has a passed pawn.
Also why I hate Mondays.
(and no jokes about my bright green jacket. I like it even
if the fashion police wnat me locked up.

That's Shirov - Carlsen from 2011.
So they were Ruby Tuesday.
'She would never say where she came from.'
Wednesday was 'It's Friday and I'm in Love.' by the Cure. (I think)
Saturday was Elton John and Sunday Girl by Blondie.
As a treat here is Shirov - Carlsen and the Queen v 3 Pieces
game you linked to. All 175 moves of it.
Excuse me Greenpawn but could you enlighten me why the game is a draw while there is a fork on the last move. Also, do you have any idea of time problems and draw-offers made in this game. Seems like there was a lot going on...
I got to say it is a beauty, but I would rather kill myself than play a game like this myself.
Nerve-breaking.

Never mind I understand. Its #50, I got to say it is a nice last move.
Imagine you counted wrongly 🙄
according to the report the last move wasn't actually made. but it was transmitted on the dgt board at the time. sometimes they plonk the kings on e4/e5 to indicate result so that may have happened.
Greenerpawn actually counted the Queen moves....
Yashin actually played over the whole game....
You two will have to meet up and swap train numbers. 😉
Apparently it was a double joke.

Shirov knew the 50 move draw was next so he played 175. Qd2
Ready to claim the draw if Carlsen checked on f3 with the Knight.
So Carlsen played 175...Ke5 allowing a Queen fork on g5. 🙂
The game was drawn under the 50 move no pawn move and no capture rule.
Here's a game of mine from last month. It begins as a Dilworth Variation of the open Ruy Lopez, and follows a Nigel Short game for quite a while. But the Q sac on move 31 is, I think, a new idea. The game ended 50 moves later after one hell of a scrap. I might have offered a draw normally, but needed to play on taking risks to stay in the tournament. All's well that ends well 🙂 Enjoy!

I see you've been doing some counting yourself...

You're one of us! Come and join us trainspotting.
Not counting GPII, just highlighting another injustice 😉
It was the yellow aliens, I'm happy with that.
Gave up train spotting when the steam trains were taken off
the tracks and replaced by those ugly diesel things.
Still go up the Highlands at least once a year to ride the steamer
from Fort William to Malliag - great day out.
