Looking at the players tables, I can only conclude one thing. The top players are geting their ratings off bashing intermediate players, and not facing advanced players such as themselves. Many only have 1-2 losses and hundreds of wins, and if they played each other (ie: played ppl around their same level), they would get a few more losses then that, although their rating wouldn't necessarily get lower.

The tables have no potential of making higher ratings then already illustrated if the
oob bashing continues, mainly because if you want to pull yourself ahead to a GM level rating (as artificial as such a rating may be here), you are going to have to risk it and beat top players, steal their pts, and gain massively for your own.

You are wrong. In many games 2000+ players face 2000+ players and they well deserve their spots on the top. The higher level, the less mistakes and more draws - and so, less losses.

I would understand that view, and I wouldn't post this if they had a crapload of draws, but many top players only have about 10 or so draws. Some of them do have a lot of draws and I respect them, but others I find a bit parculiar, which is why I gave this theory.

If you look at the public games of the top players, you should find plenty of examples of them playing each other. For instance, let's look at 3 of the top players who have impeccable records:-

Akizy is playing or has recently played:
Seadevil, Skeeter, Baca, Tequilla, Feivel, LittleBear, Tebb...

Ironman is playing:
LittleBear, Kingcaptured, Tequilla, The P.O, Tejo, Bbarr...

Kingcaptured is playing:
Skipslot, Ironman, Mephisto2, Tejo, Bbarr, Feivel...

Often people complain that the top players are snobs, who refuse to play games against people rated lower than themselves, so it's refreshing to see the opposite accusation! 😉

You should first have done some real research:

Akizy played 10 out of the 19 other players of the top 20 = 52,63%

He played a total of 22 matches against these players, thats 12,5% of his total amount of matches.

He plays 18 matches at the same time.

This is just Akizy ... I am pretty sure that the other 19 "top" players will have at least the same statistics. 1 out of every 8 matches Akizy played was against a top 20 player --> meaning 2,25 of his present 18 games is against a top 20 player. A reasonable score I think.

The top players also play in tournaments. Probably no more or less than the rest of us, but in a tourney they have to play whoever they're matched against. Since there are only about 40 players rated 2000 or higher at any given time on the site, and since the vast majority of players are rated somwehere between 1100 and 1500 (thousands of players there) it stands to reason that a lot of games in the top player's lists are gonna look like mismatches. But it's not like they voluntary went out and looked for people rated 1200 so they could crush'em and gain 1 point for their rating.

Good point. They probably plays tons of tournies, and with round robin play, they are gonna waste time with a few newbies.

I wonder...back when I was 1200 if I had that attitude? I doubt it cause if a few higher rated platers didn't waste their time i wouldn't be higher rated myself.

I have yet to encounter a "top" player who refused to play a match against me. All I did was ask for a match and explain that it would be a great experience for a lower rate player like me to play against and learn from a high rated player.

My game has improved everytime I played against higher rated players, and all of them were kind and friendly to discuss the ongoing match, critize my moves and give advice to become a better player.

Not one of these players had to play the match because it was either a tournament or a clan match. They excepted my invitation and did spend precious time to teach a mere 1200 player some chess, and didn't bother that their rating didn't gain one single point.

To those who know which players I mean: Thank you!
