As I understand it, the American education system is highly decentralised, with each school/state (not sure which) free to choose its own curriculum. The SAT/ACT's are intended to be standardised tests that universities can use to compare candidates for entry.
In Britian, the education system is centralised and the GCSE examination is almost a high/secondary school graduation exam.
Maybe someone who knows more can add to/correct this.
PS - I studied under the Indian education system, which is similar to the British one, so my views may not be entirely accurate.

It is good to see that you have calmed down Admw. I read this thread from the beginning, but I didn't want to have a second argument with you. I hope you can keep this calm, because it will help you a lot and you will find out that most of the people (probably all, but I don't know all of them) you were arguing with are good people.
The reason why you have calmed down is not important, and Ravello, you shouldn't have mentioned it, but it is important that you see the benefits of it. This thread has become much nicer since, and I hope you will see that too.
I hope we can close this subject now, even the argument between you and Ravello. You don't have to be friends, but I think you need to respect each other from now on, and that counts for both of you.
