I don't normally like to take these but I will make an exception against User 170728 as in 3 days it will be 42 days since he last bothered to move and his rating has dropped 450 points since our games started. I can see no justifiable reason for letting him off and if I do I can see myself taking 600 days to finish this game with him taking 21 days for every move.
This user has done this before. Why do players sign up for so many games that they know they cannot complete and just delay eveyone else in a tournament?
On his home page he has put...
"I tend to sign up for big tournaments when I am bored, then I later end up with no free time and tons of games. So there is a fair chance I will take a time out if I have the chance, just to reduce the number of games. It has happened to me enough that I don't feel bad about it anymore, that's just the game. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED"
.......says it all really.........

Thanks for informing us DF, I am very enlightened by this thread!
Perhaps you could enlighten me as you are a font of all knowledge by giving me an answer to my question "why?". What is the point of starting so many games that you know you can't and won't finish? Seems pointless to me!
Originally posted by Dragon FireIf this particular player has a habit of delaying games, why join a tournament in which he plays, or is it more complex than that.

Originally posted by excalibur 8Timing out won't actually delay a tournament in the slightest. Tournament games will auto-timeout two days after timebank expires with no input from the opponent. This thread is all about Dragon Fire being an idiot.

Have I ever abused you or called you an idiot?
Do you seek to inflame people or could you perhaps engage in useful and meaningful dialogue?
The point is that in a long haul tournment with 21/21 time limits if 1 player used all his time and the other a day per move the game will take 882 days. A tournament with 3 rounds could therefore take over 2500 days by which time most people who entered will have lost all interest.
Perhaps I should not enter 21/21 tournaments but the days are useful for the periods you are actually away (like vacations when you like to time people out anyway) and I assume most people are here to actually play chess.
Originally posted by Dragon FireYou started this thread complaining about someone who times out of their games. And now you're complaining about people who take their time in extremely long timeout games?

I don't know about you but I am here to actually play chess and I cannot understand people who cannot be bothered to play. Why start a game if you know you can't finish?

serves you right.
Originally posted by Caro KannYes it does but most people move faster than this. I will certainly avoid Long Haul tournaments in future as I will be dead before they end.

Why are you busy posting negative things everywhere? On some sort of vendetta!
Why are you busy posting negative things everywhere? On some sort of vendetta![/b]i wouldnt worry dude, there seems to be a lot of people on this forum whose first reaction is to post negative or pedantic things denigrating other posters rather than put something negative themselves. Its sad really.
I hope its not indicitve of the wider chess playing population, i enjoy playing and was considering joining a club so i could improve but not if everyone is going to be like that!
