I've reached the first year of playing chess. I'm rather suprised I reached 1700 after playing only about 100 games, but I reached my goal of 1500. I also got a 1500 OTB rating after my first year.
I guess I'll shoot for 1900 next year and 1700 OTB, but I dunno about doing that in only 2 years. Do you think that's a good pace...how long did it take you to do 1500-1700...
Shoot by age 21 maybe I'll be rated 2000 here π
Originally posted by Ramnedit took me less than 2 years to break 1900 here. if I remember right, smaug did it even faster.

It does get a little tougher from here though π
rammed i find that you have beaten 1 1800 player but every other game (except a select few) are against people who aren't even 1500. i'd first start playing 1600 and 1700 players to see if your really up to par on 1700. my rating is 1800 but yet i had a long string of 1500 and 1600 players with few 1800 and 1900 players few and far inbetween. i'd say i was a higher 1600 player here rather than a 1800 player. but who knows if you play that constistant against 1600 players it will be a whole new story. although playing 1400 players and playing against 1600 player are a big difference.
Originally posted by kmac27Yeah most of those games used to be even, but since it takes me 3 months to finish a game, I seem overrated now. When I started those games, we were evenly matched, mostly.

After this stretch of tourneys I will look for harder opponents. I understand that my rating could be 50-100 pts higher than my play but I know that I can play at 1600 players. I have 5-7 games with 1600 + right now, and am not losing a single one π
Sicilian Smaug was impressive. Thing is, I learned how to play a year ago. Were you already playing chess when you started RHP?
