Just challenged 'alekk' who won't accept a challenge below 1550 rating.
Has ego anything to do with it?
I won't accept challenges from anyone below 1750 and my rating is 1816.
At least his is reasonable 1715 and 1550.
To get better you gotta play the best. No point in wasting people who you can beat already. Don't learn much that way. Besides in OTB most of the time you can't pick your opponents, thus on here I pick opponents stronger then me.
makes perfect sense to me, people below 1550 routinely hang pieces
not much fun to play that way. in addition there is a tendancy not to resign because they hope their opp will drop a piece. I think it is by far more ridiculous to post open invites asking for an opp at least 500 pts above your rating (and i've seen quite a few).
Originally posted by RahimKThat is precisely my point; to play someone much better will teach you something, and I would not reject an invitation to play just because he or she is rated much lower than me. Is ratings the be all and end all of chess? I hope not.🙂

I play lower rated players every now and then if they ask, just to give them what I've got from higher rated players. but I still keep my rating limit at 1500, and will probably raise it when I start taking new games. it has nothing to do with ego.
I'm not starting new games now though. I'm probably forced to timeout/resign even my current games in two weeks or so.

1200 playing a 1715 is a waster for both of you. After 400+ point difference the higher rated player doesn't get anything for a win so why bother?
Plus I only play 3 games on here at once, so I don't play lower rated players unless I know then and they are within 200 point of my rating.
Once you get your rating up to 1400 you can challenge 1600 and so on. Work your way up, there's nothing stopping you.

Originally posted by RahimKnah, I'm finally moving next week if I get transportation. and my ISP says it'll take 2-4 weeks to move the connection. when I subscribed, they said 6 and it took 8, so it might be longer again. -I'm also thinking about changing ISP to one that would deliver within days, but on the other hand I wouldn't want to lose my email adress. I've had the same one for 8 years. it seems I'm in a zugzwang.
