Have you had so many games in a row that you couldn't remember the last move , so you just played it purely from the position? I just exprienced that. Plus as a newbie I figured I'd pile on about 12 games and have them all 1 day games with no timeout, then I come back from my inlaws with 3 games lost!
Also I'll admit it, I looked up some opening book, from time to time. Usually it's when someone comes up with a wacky opening like 1.c5 or something, but it's time consuming to do that.
I played some OTB this weekend and I forgot how much different it is on the computer. Sometimes you can just read your opponent if he's right there and you see what he's up to real time.
Anyway, I've got to narrow my games down.

I totally agree...I'm a beginner and haven't been here long, but I really can't focus on more than 6-10 games at a time. They all start becoming a blur- it's easy to lose the "feel" for a game. Sure, you can replay the moves, but I often forgot where I was trying to go with it a day ago.
How people can play hundreds at a time is completely beyond me...The time commitment must get pretty big.
I can handle 30 games very well. I use the notebook feature for deep thought and I have found that the games are easy enough to remember. However once I surpass 50 games in progress I have trouble remembering previous moves and my stradegy. Past 75 games I begin making careless errors and over 125 games is just stupid for me.
I should use the notebook more really, so often I analyse a game and then the opponent doesnt move for a while and I forget completely why I had played the last moves and what is supposed to be going on in the position.
It is one of the inherent dangers of correspondence, and probably why there are more blunders played here then in over the board chess.
I wish they had the notebook feature on the "analyse board" screen. I could use it more there than on the "submit move" screen.
Also this helpful hint from the help forum if you want to write notes but not play a move:
>Make sure to not moved any pieces on board. Make your note. then press (a bit non-intuitive, I know, but) Submit move. Now the note is there.

Well I've got them down to 6 but I'm getting so lazy at calculating. I usually commit to calculate through like I should with one or two guys, Ironically I do something stupid in the openings of the new games.
And get spanked by the ones I'm not calculating so much. Well I get spanked by the calculated guys too, but you get the idea.
I'm basically a club player so this is a bit new.
Hey, I get guys just showing up, is that normal?
