Sounds like utter crap to me. My recollection was that Judit didn't protest at the time and therefore lost her chance according to the FIDE rules.

4.3 Touch Move
...
4.6 A player forfeits his right to a claim against his opponent`s violation of Article 4.3 or 4.4, once he deliberately touches a piece.

Let's not even mention the conspiracy theory with zero evidence.

Polgar herself said she was basically so shocked by Kas's actions she didn't report it to the ref's basically out of respect to a sitting champion. Those are her words. Don.

Mm, that last bit sounds fishy to me. I've heard several GMs complain that Polgar gets invites to tournaments when her rating doesn't deserve just ('just'😉 because of her star-value. What's your source?
That BS, her rating is something like #14 in the frigging world. Anyone over 2700 is going to be invited to just about any tournament, plus the star value can only increase her chances of an invite. She has taken major scalps in the highest level tournies.

Her words don't make a bit of difference. Once her window for protesting is closed you cannot protest. What if the rules were different and she could have protested at the end of the game. Should the game have been started from the position with the Knight on c5?

But there is no doubt the Kasparov broke the rules and cheated - or are you saying that because Judit didn't have a hissy fit at the board and refuse to move that that it doesn't count as cheating?

From my recollection she was actually so shocked that someone of his standing would do something that most 6 year old kids know is against the rules of the game , that she played on pretty much dumbfounded .

There are countless example in various sports where cameras have caught someone out cheating when their opponents/referee either continued playing or didn't see the incident in the first place.
Regardless or whether anyone protests or the result stands, the perpurtrator is still a cheat.

Football fans could give countless examples I am sure

Her words make no difference to the result of the game. But that isn't the issue
Is the result of one game as important as knowing that the world champion cheated?

I will try to find the source, a NiC I think. Btw, I was not reporting my opinion. Esp as, if I were a tournament organiser, I'd invite Judit every time, whatever her Elo!

We'll never know now except for a fritz analysis which I bet you already have done! Its a moot point because she didn't protest.
Are you saying you don't believe the incident happened?

I'm saying that I've only managed to find Judit's account of the incident and her feelings about it. Isn't it possible that Kasparov didn't know that his hand had completely left the piece?

It's a good question.

Although didn't he insist his hand did *not* leave the piece - rather than he just wasn't sure? Or does that not matter?!

Isn't it possible to be sure of something that later turns to be wrong. I know I do it from time to time.

Lets settle this like real Chess heroes - if you dare
send me a game (I saved a slot for you)
You can play to defend Kasparov's honour and I will be Judit.

I will get revenge for her and have "The Special K" for breakfast
🙂

I can think of at least 118 other things I'd rather spend my time on.
