I've read this news and found that Topalov himself is acussed of computer use... but i failed to find any story or news on that matter, what do u know about that?
Here are some of the things i've read lately
GARRY KASPAROV letter on the chess mess in elista from Monday, October 2, 2006:
"Adding irony to the tragedy is the fact that for the past year and a half Mr. Topalov himself has been the subject of rumors and even public accusations that he has cheated with computer assistance. Hard evidence is lacking, with some pointing to odd behavior by his assistants and other critics saying there is simply no other explanation for Mr. Topalov's sudden ascent to the top of the rating list after my retirement."
in chessbase "Scandalous and unscandalous impressions":
"IM Barsky, one of the most diligent supporters of the "Topalov = Computer" theory."

It's very clearly stated that Alex Baburin did not accuse Topalov of cheating, merely that he wrote an article reporting on the accusations.
I should have stated that Baburin reported on unsubstantiated allegations that Topalov cheated. My point was to provide the link. I'm glad someone read it.

There was something along the lines of Topalov = Rybka 2.1 and there was a joke about him paying $2mil to have a computer chip embedded in his head...
Thats all that I am aware of.
Edit: I don't take either of them seriously.
"The Topalov team used their accusations of cheating as a psychological weapon, but it will come back to them like a bumerang. Experts will check how a player who for many years has played consistantly in tournaments at a 2730-2740 level suddenly, at the age of 30, climbs to consistantly over 2800. How he was able to produce such an unbelievable series of victories, in San Luis, Morelia/Linares and Sofia. In the rapid chess events in Leon and Monaco he plays like a 2700 player."
Chess Classic organiser Hans-Walter Schmitt, original in German http://www.chesstigers.de/index_news.php?id=888&rubrik=3 , English translation http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=3418 .
Kramnik himself mentioned while dismissing the accusations that Topalovs percentages were much higher at San Luis.
You guys realize that both of these players are capable of beating Fritz 9 correct? It should be no surprise that their choices would be concurrent with the potential choices of advanced chess engines. Great minds think alike.
Originally posted by ItalyBoyBlueI posted a link and quote - but don't in fact agree with it. After Kasparov retired, there was a vacuum at the top at chess. Topalov hurtled in to fill it in the ratings. That's all that happened, it seems to me.

I think these things affect chess players. A loose analogy - Karpov, after becoming FIDE World Champion again whenever it was, stormed Linares soon after with some crazy score like 11/14 or something. It's a bit too pre-coffee for exact details btw.

I've been thinking back to that too. It was the touch move rule wasn't it? And video footage after showed his hand had left the piece, that he instead moved to another square?
Originally posted by TurfmoorMm, that last bit sounds fishy to me. I've heard several GMs complain that Polgar gets invites to tournaments when her rating doesn't deserve just ('just'😉 because of her star-value. What's your source?
