It's very sad that a respected figure such as Day can post such nonsense as if it were all true. There is a massive amount of evidence that Ed Trice wrote this book entirely himself and then had it published (using a "vanity press" company) and none whatsoever that Fischer had anything to do with it.

I did get a nice chuckle over Mr. Day's article. While he states that there was a great controversy over the book's origin and admits that the publisher and editor are anonymous, he somehow is convinced that Bobby did indeed write the book. (He gives no evidence for his belief.) It just goes to show that being a good chessplayer doesn't necessarily also make you a good investigative reporter.
His article does raise a few additional questions in my mind that I wish he would have addressed. How did he get his copy of the book? Is it still available? Is there a copyright notice in the book?
Myself, other than idle curiosity, I guess I can't really get too worked up over this issue. I'm not really a chess book collector, and Fischer's analysis is really over this patzer's head, anyway. And if I did want some Fischer books, there are still many available, both new and used, in which the publisher is known. To any prospective buyers of My 61 Memorable Games, I just have one piece of advice: caveat emptor.
