I thought at first that the traxler would be a very bad opening for black, but against an amateur in blitz it is very effective. just look:

    [Event "RHP Blitz rated"]
    [Site "www.redhotpawn.com"]
    [Date "2008.01.15"]
    [White "name removed"]
    [Black "timmydoza"]
    [Result "0-1"]
    [Variant ""]
    [PlyCount "18"]

    1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.Ng5 Bc5 5.Nxf7 Bxf2+ 6.Kxf2 Nxe4+ 7.Ke2 Nd4+ 8.Ke1
    Qh4+ 9.g3 Nxg3 0-1

I would never play the traxler otb with a gm though, even if i was one myself. what do you think of this game and the traxler in general?

I have had good games with Traxler, especially in Blitz. The problem is... all my success happened in OTB. As for internet Chess, Traxler always has me struggling when I play against someone who knows what they are doing 🙁 Same with Latvian Gambit, great results in OTB but, against a strong player on internet Chess, I usually struggle against players rated significantly below me.

All this is too bad because, I really LOVE the Traxler & Latvian Gambit!! 🙁

My advice, if you & YOUR OPPONENT are

Dont know what happened??? Anyway, my advice... if you and your opponent are < 1700... play the Traxler!!! You'll learn alot & you'll have fun doing it!!!
