There are a few places that have a school named after this lad.
    I googled him and got.

His unfailing good humor resulted in his naming as the patron saint
of practical jokers and the patron saint of joy.

He's the boy for for me.

    Religious Joke:

A bunch of Monks are in the vaults of the Abbey looking at the very
old and original documents that make up the rules for being a Monk.

"Oh No" shouts one. "When they copied out the rules someone missed out an 'R'"

    "It's Celebrate not Celebate."

    Hi Torten.

All with check, all forced, that's how I like them.

Need a theme for the next Mating Pattern.
Any ideas...Anything...I'll find examples...the 1400 lads have never
    let me down yet.

There must be a few good examples of sacs to force back-rank mates (as opposed to the "I didn't see that rook" sort of back-rank mate)?

Just an initial idea though, I'll put my thinking cap on while battling excel this afternoon to see if anything else comes up 🙂

I'm sure I have covered back rank mates.
There are hundreds of them a lot are one move over-sights.

Torten, I'm miles away from house and DB.
Can you or, anyone post that full game.
Always good to see how the position came about.
It is often more instrcutive than the actualu solving of the problem.

How about Anderssen's Mate? It's amazing how often an opportunity for this is missed because it generally involves a sacrifice on the h-file (less often on the a-file).

    I support Fat lady's suggestion.
If you've done that already, then how about an epaulette mate.
I've always found those funny.Screwed by the officers beside you.

Cheers Torten. What a game, tactical motifs all over the place.

If 20.Rxf2 Qxd4 forking both Rooks and if 21.Nxd4 Re1 back rank mate.
The end was worthy of the game.

thaughbaer had a good idea in another thread. A game that starts and mates
    with the same move.

See If I can find something like 1.Nf3 that ends in Nf3 Mate.
Or 1.e4 and the d-pawn makes a capture on e3 then goes e4 mate.
It's tough one. Chernev in Chess Companion gives a long game that ends
with white playing e4 then d4 and 1-0.

    Found Three!

(that is what I have been doing for the past 11 hours.....looking.)

Two for Black where 1...Nc6 finishes with Nc6 Mate and 1...Nf6 ends with
Ng6 mate. (In this game the Knight performs heroics on the Queenside then
returns to f6 to mate White.)

But the best is 1.e4 and 29 moves later e4 mate. (there was an exchange
on e3 and the f-pawn became the mating e-pawn.).
The lucky thing for me is that instead of 30.e4 mate White can also give
mate in one another way with a Bishop. He chose 30.e4 mate.

    Next Blog sorted.......off to bed.

Hi FL - your cat is worse thatn Trevs cat.

Not a true 'Alliteration checkmate' we are inventing a whole Chess theme here.

If you can get a White knight back to f3 mating then that is true one.
Possibly SG territory here. Compose the shortest game where 1.Nf3 is the
first move and White mates with Nf3 (Fat LAdy;s cat v Trev's cat).

An Alliteration is a word beginning and ending with the same letter.
(though a learned lad at work says this is not the correct term.)

chronic, deed, growing, Israeli, kick, magnesium......

World Chess Champion 'Euwe' an alliteration - There is another?
