Do they really seem so advantageous? I personally can't stand 1. e4
as white. I refuse to play it. More and more, I'm beginning to feel
like 1. d4 is too sharp against most RHP players, and rarely leads to anything positional (among lower ranked players). Here is a game I played with a personal special Mieses opening (A00 unorthodox of course). These openings are also well known to be "Anti-Engine" but that's of no consequence for human CC.
Anybody have any others that they like to play, and any reason as to why you choose not to play 1.d4 or 1.e4 ( i love 1.c4 )

Originally posted by AdoreaSince last year, I've been playing the English Opening (1. c4) simply because the set-ups were farily standard despite black's response, and 1. e4 and 1. d4 carried too much theory to learn. However, I've been looking to learn a new opening for some variety, whether 1. e4, 1. d4, or another relatively unusually played opening, and I'll be able to switch back to what I know (1. c4) while learning another opening.
...any reason as to why you choose not to play 1.d4 or 1.e4 (I love 1.c4)...
i've dabbled in the bird some, but don't really find it attractive. I can't really find anything as solid as the english other than e4 and d4... obviously the night development's both work, but neither are exactly "unorthodox" as they're seen much more often than the mieses.
As white, the only opening i'm really comfortable with is c4 (english) i am also comfortable in d4. and f4, but not nearly as c4.
of course my little mieses variation can be fun. However against stronger opponents it falls apart without very precise play from white.
