That's what I like about it. There are pages and pages of background material on Reshevsky, Larsen, etc. the analysis is dead on, computer checked. Unlike some of the critics, I think Kasparov showed great deference toward Fischer, calling him a genius many times and giving him credit for raising the prestige of chess in the sports world.

Fischer commited no crime? He disobeyed the trade embargo on Yugoslavia. While you may not agree that it should be a crime it was and he knowingly broke it.
Personally you strike me as a Fischer fanboy. There are plenty of you around. I'll admit Fischer was a great chessplayer. One of the very best ever. However his conduct outside of chess leaves a gr ...[text shortened]... o if you were smarter than anyone you would know it's impossible to be more than 100% correct.

It is my exact opinion.
I just don't understand why Bobby gave up from american citizenship (I don't judge him. Everybody can do that. It is legal procedure). So far was ok. Playing in Yugoslaviya was ok so far. But when he was trying to go from Japan he was using amercan passport. If he is still citizen of US he would need to pay the taxes from the prizes. He didn't pay it and again he should go to jail for that too.
Originally posted by sergen1976So basicly your attitude is any American citazens against the Bush administration, anyone "anti-American", against America's pro-Isreali policies, etc, should be put in jail? I'm sure most Republicans think along your lines, but they don't flat out say it like you do, which is why I wondered if you were a Liberal being sarcastic. Anyways, at least I appreciate you for being one of the few honest Republicans, although that view is simply morally bankrupt.

Calm down. I don't like Bush too. I don't like speak about politics either.
I am saing that discrimination and sheltering the taxes are under crime police in US. That is different in other places like in Russia or Ukrane. Also I think that Fisher's speach about "Jaw controlled" is an analog of fascist speach. Fisher should be punished for that.

In the United States, anti-Semitism is not a crime, but nor is it a popular idea outside of a few communities where white supremacists of certain sorts gather. Manu of these groups commit crimes (one was shut down in north Idaho two years ago), but no one has linked Fischer's racist views to any outlaw gangs who happen to hold similar views.
Mateulose -
I was not responding to any comments about crimes. I was responding to your claim that he's done nothing wrong which would cause him to be hated.
The events of 9/11 were influenced by America's actions and decisions, but to say it's 100% America's fault is ridiculous.
What reason does the U.S. have for supporting Israel? I don't know, but I could speculate. The most likely speculations would not involve a Jewish conspiracy. What support do you have for this claim?
I don't necessarily approve of the U.S. support of Israel by the way.
Originally posted by mateuloseI don't particularly hate Fischer but saying that "he's done nothing wrong" is not exact. Fischer failed to report income tax. That's wrong and against the law.
I feel so sorry for Fischer, everyone around the world, including his own country, seems to hate him even though he's done nothing wrong and has actually accomplished a lot for his country when you consider he was beating the strong chess soviet system duirng the cold war. That has to count for something, no? But no, everyone hates Fischer, so he has to hide somewhere and go hermit, sad. . .
One thing that I really don't like about this book series ( as a matter of fact I read them in Russian ) - is that initially it was planned to be a 3 volume series with 4 champions in each volume - but after a big success of first 2 volumes the editors felt that people anticipate for a concluding third volume which would contain Fischer and Karpov ( with special Kasparov's opinion abt the latter ) and they splitted the last volume into 4!!!! - cause they plan it to be 6-volumed now.
I just can't understand - vol No 5 - Karpov
what about vol No 6???
And by the way I don't dislike Fischer just because he was an ill (schizophrenic) person - just like mateulose, I guess...
