Generally in this situation as black I would not advance, but aim for a Tarrash-postion. The nice thing about this defense is that it can be reached from a lot of different openings. In its "normal" form it goes

1.d4 d5
2.c4 e6
3.Nc3 c5

Black is in good hands with this, if he knows the basics. Recommended reading is "Complete Defense to Queens Pawn Openings" by Eric Schiller. As usual with Schiller it is well written as an introductory work.

The Tarrasch defence to the queens gambit is not very popular at all for a mainline opening. That is if yo discount the bog standard IQP position you can get to with other openings too.
There are only a few books on the Tarrasch.

I see that a few folks are inspired enough to give it a go.

ooh that is an old thread very perceptive of you to notice.

I just tried it out in a blitz game a few minutes ago and it worked way better than i thought it would.
It almost seems hopeless for white.

It worked well in game 2 too this really seems like it might be a really great opening.

The more I try this opening out the more i think its a really serious opening.
Black seems to plan Qa5 and often obtains lotsa play and the bishop pair in positions where the bishops are noticably good.
