Waldron Banned

Not top news, I know, but I am sure we will see this guy back again soon - he turns up with a new account every few months, wins a bunch of tournaments, makes it near to 2300 and gets banned. I think he likes it in a way. The last names I have seen him use are Erice1 and Clivestraddle.

Hopefully with the new moderating team, he will get busted quicker next time.

I'm not sold on the that theory at all. Is there any evidence that Waldron, erice1 and clivestraddle were the same person?

Was he really clivestraddle?

I highly doubt that they're anything other than three different people. It's not like there's a shortage of people pining for easy Internet glory.

But they always play loads of tournaments, mostly short time controls, make tons and tons of moves a day.... and (this is what my theory hinges on) they sign up not too long after a previous account has been banned.

erice1 was banned 18/02/2008
clivestraddle started playing 24/02/2008
clivestraddle was banned 24/07/2008
waldron started playing 23/09/2008

Their openings and defences seem similar as well...

OK, I've changed my mind, there seems to be some evidence to suggest that they all are the same person.

And this is only as far as I have started counting - I am sure if we look further back into winners of hardcore and 1/0 tournaments, there will be other accounts as well - but I do remember Erice1 was the first to be vocal in the forums, so perhaps he was the first.

can admin see the IPs where the users are connected from ?

At least that means he's ponying up a new $30 every time he signs up. Not too bad for the site.

Also, can't Russ run the credit cards and see if two subs came from the same name on the credit card (even if he used different cards)?

I suspect that is what is going on during the 'break' from play - a trip to the bank to get a new credit card. IP numbers are easily got around - although gameknot have a system where they log every IP address ever used and match them up to users - thus making it impossible to have multiple accounts.

Waldron was first mentioned early October on the OTB site.

Players thought he was Straddle and Erice even then.

Myself and FL thought the games were too human like, but the
massive amount of games being played by Waldron and the
simliar openings and style went against him.

I don't think credit cards details can be kept once a payment has been made,
So it may be possible to use the same card again and again.

If the player subs from an Internet Cafe (dodgy using a card at these
places by the way) then payment and IPN will go through.
