Was he messing with me?

This is a current game, so I'm not asking about anything that is ongoing or matters. I want to hear your opinions about his early moves. He's over three-hundred points higher than me, so I wonder if the early pawn movement was just because he didn't take me seriously or if I was missing something. Again, I don't want any answers that would be directed towards anything that will happen.

I don't think he messing about with you, he was just trying a new style of playing the opening. He certainly didn't play any silly moves like 1.Nf3 ... 2.Ng1. I'd say it was a pretty well played game so far.

BUt he kept locking up his pieces with his pawns. I'm a newby, so I don't know much, but isn't getting pieces open one of the most important things in the early stages?

I remember him, he's the joker who thinks you can checkmate with only a knight.
