Right...White was up a piece and all he had to do is not let the bQ in for checks.

White's error was that he was too eager to trade pieces. First, make the King safe, then start trading.

I gave it a quick glance, I wouldn't have resigned, you had a back rank mate on the move if your opponent slipped up.

Maybe 28.Kg3, heading for h3 was worth a shot. Once Black's checks stop White will be able to check on the back rank and then bring his queen back to defend the rather ropey king. Hopefully the extra piece will then be enough to win.
