what a good opening means to me ....

a good opening gets me into positions where i feel like i am playing the game, where i have choices.
my choices and my opponent's choices decide the game.

a bad opening is one where some trick - found by GM who stopped breathing 30 years ago, or by a computer who never breathed - decides the game in the opening (sometimes in the middle game).
