So I just finished up two tournament games where I managed to go up a pawn on each game and my opponent resigned on both games.

Now after resigning he leaves me this message on one of the games, "You seem to be playing way about your ability.......".

What is that suppose to mean? Is he implying that I was cheating? I thought that I managed to capitalize on his mistakes. Now those wins feel cheap like I did something wrong, which I didn't.

I can post the games but I don't know if I should identify the person.

Message them back, "you played poor, please try to do better next time".

Add them to your ignore list. That way you can both be pissed off over the games.

The worst part about it was I thought I played really well. I'm not even mad about the games. It's the poor sportsmanship that makes me mad. I won't have said that if I would have lost.

Don't let a sore loser bring down your mood over a game well played. If he wants to cry because you outplayed him, let him. As someone said before, add him to your ignore list and be proud of your accomplishment. 🙂

Sounds like a plan.

Thanks. 🙂

The sad thing is that he is the only person to ever make my ignore list.

Don't be too hard on him, maybe he thought he was paying you a compliment and was too thick-witted to see how it could be taken.

I thought about that, too. The seven dots at the end of the statement, however, led me to believe that he might be trying to imply something else.

Yeah sounds like a sore loser situation to me, nothing to worry about.

At the amateur level, people who play the man and not the board set themselves up for these types of sore loser situations because everybody is capable of brilliant play every so often, so it's no good to underestimate or assume a player is cheating if they play above their so called "rating". FORGET ratings and play the position!

On a side note, you said he resigned after you went a pawn up? How late in the game was this? If it was in the opening, middlegame, and heck even most endgames, he still should have played it out! Being a pawn up does not equal and automatic win, not even close. So he was not just a sore loser but a quitter!

The one game we were still in the middle game.

The other game we were transistioning into the end game. We both had our rooks but I had one rook that was active.

Agreed! Play the board, not the person. And when in doubt..take the high road!
