I see ads for Fritz 10. I know its a programme but how do you use it? I have a laptop at home which takes CD's - is it a CD or do I need some other software to use this?

One of them. It's a nice analysis tool though.

Fritz is the second strongest chess engine in the world and also the best chess interface for serious players, imo.

Although Fritz is a more powerful engine, I find Chessmaster has better teaching modules.

Does anyone know the best program for after game analysis?
I want something that will tell me in basic terms where I can improve.

Fritz does that very well. I am at work at the moment so don't have Fritz with me, but I can do some analysis using Fritz on one of my games as an example this evening (that is if someone here doesn't do that for me. 😉 ).

EDIT: Oh yes, there is Crafty as well (http://www.limunltd.com/crafty/) which is free, naturally wouldn't be as sophisticated as Fritz.

Rybka and Hiarcs are the most human like as far as I know so they should be best for analysis and rybka is also the strongest around with Hiarcs not far behind
