That's intertesting! Mine is 32.38

Is there a statistic that shows the average moves for any chess game? Is it always 32-33 moves?
We need some more posters to divide total moves by total games and see what the answer is. 🙂

2123/62 = 34.2, tough these are too low numbers to make any statistic, and they include 25 still open matches and 4-5 timeouts. It's interesting! I wonder if there are site-wide stats for this.. the game id's should give (?) the total number of matches... but moves... hmmm... I think that a simple query on the MySQL database used for the site could give us the response 🙂

The easy way to do this would be to send chrismo or russ a feedback and see if they can run a bean-counter routine on the current statistics and come up with some numbers.

Things like:
Number of moves per game,
the average rating of the RHP community,
...or whatever else may be of interest.

First, find out what everyone wants to know, either here or in a new thread. Then just put together a list and see what they can do with it. They can surely access the RHP database and come up with all sorts of statistics. (In their idle moments, of course.....😀 )

regards, Marc

29,9 including six unfinished matches.
Hmmm, is a low number usually a good thing or a bad thing? Or neutral.

By itself, it would only mean that your games are completed in fewer moves than average. Your rating factored into the 'average moves per game' might be more enlightening.

32.24. Like a few others here I also find it interesting that everyone is right around that low to mid thirties mark. Does that mean we're getting through the openings without getting crushed or winning? Does it mean our endgame stinks and we're losing or winning soon after the middle game gets cleared away? Interesting...

I wonder what the # is for pros/IM's and GM's?

I was wondering if any statistics-lovers here had calculated the fraction of the games in which they castled, as well as their W-L-D breakdown in games that they castle and in games that they do not castle.

Surely almost all won games arewith castling.
I suffered the worst losses by leaving the king exposed to ''bad weather''..............
Only in very closed positions you could retard castling.
