Creativity, wisdom, willpower, dedication, and definitely a good deal of passion for the game.

Study games from better players.
Play against every level of player.
Never stop studying tactics.
And every now and then get the crap beaten out of you. That'll keep you hungry for improvement. 🙂

A fear, dread, terror of losing. A drug-like euphoria in beating your opponent, which, alas, lasts only moments before the fear and nausea of losing once again sets in.

A good chess player is kind to animals, to other human beings, and prays more than he or she preys.

If you wish to be good at chess, you need talent and lots of hard work. Study endgames, and the classics first. The first volume of Garry Kasparov, My Great Predecessors is excellent training material.

Oh brother... 😴

After seeing the characters that have dispensed you advice I can only laugh...

Come on y'all!

We are hackers!

We don't know anything about chess!

I do have one piece of advice despite being a mediocre player:

Don't listen to this people!
